Breaking Morning News: One dead, two injured after a two-vehicle collision in Volusia County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision this morning in Volusia County that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 7:52 am, a 2018 Toyota Tacoma driven by a 74-year-old Deland man was traveling southbound on Shell Road approaching a stop sign at the intersection of State Road 44 (New York Avenue).

At the same time, a 2023 Ram 2500 driven by a 46-year-old Edgewater man was traveling westbound on SR-44 approaching the intersection of Shell Road.

As they approached, the first driver failed to yield from the stop sign and began turning left to travel east on SR-44 in the direct path of the second vehicle. As a result, the two vehicles collided.

The first driver was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.

The second driver and a passenger (a 51-year-old Edgewater woman) were transported to AdventHealth Deland with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or the passenger involved in the collision.
