Posted

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a call from the Citrus County Sheriff's Office to assist in apprehending a fleeing driver this morning, which resulted in the arrest of the suspect after multiple collisions and injuries to a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 8 am, FHP Troopers received a request for assistance from the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office after an individual driving a Ford Bronco fled from a traffic stop and later attempted to collide with another deputy who was conducting an unrelated traffic stop.

Troopers intercepted the vehicle traveling at high speeds southbound on US-19 and engaged in a pursuit.

Due to high speeds, a PIT maneuver could not be safely conducted; however, the suspect brake-checked the Trooper, and the two vehicles collided during the pursuit.

At the intersection of Wendy Lane in Hernando County, the suspect collided with six vehicles, which resulted in serious injuries to one driver.

The suspect, 56-year-old Efton Wanefield Miller of New Port Richey, was taken into custody and charged with Reckless Driving resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, Aggravated Fleeing to Elude involving Serious Bodily Injury, Aggravated Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, DUI resulting in Serious Bodily Injury and Property Damage, Felon in possession of weapons, and Felon in possession of ammunition.

Located within Miller’s vehicle following the incident were two swords, brass knuckles, a Bow and Arrow, a Crossbow, and a police radio.

The FHP did not release the names of drivers or passengers involved in the multi-vehicle collision.
