Blue Darters surge past Evans 33-13

Posted

Are the Apopka Blue Darters peaking at the right time?

After losing three of their last five games, Apopka found its rhythm Thursday night, defeating the Evans Trojans 33-13. The win gives the Bue Darters a 6-3 record on the season and closes out their 4M District 2 campaign at 2-2.

The 33-point effort was the highest offensive output of the season for Apopka and comes at an opportune moment, as the postseason is only one game away.

But on Thursday night, it was all about the offense.

It was a balanced, consistent effort. The Blue Darters amassed 330 total yards, 221 from rushing. Four different players scored for Apopka.

Blue Darter quarterback Tyson Davison found Isaac Knight on a 23-yard touchdown pass, while Nathan Jenkins III, Reggie McBride, and Jayden Safford all rushed for scores.

Evans took an early 7-0 lead, but then Apopka scored ten straight points to take a 10-7 halftime lead. Then, on the first drive of the third quarter, Safford raced 26 yards for a Blue Darter touchdown. The two-point conversion was good, and the Blue Darters took an 18-7 lead and never looked back - scoring on two more possessions to seal the win.

The Blue Darters close out their regular season this Friday at home against their crosstown rival, the Wekiva Mustangs, in the Apopka Mayor's Cup. Wekiva is 4-5 on the season. Last year, Wekiva defeated Apopka 20-14.
