Blue Darters, Mustangs fall

Apopka drops second straight; Wekiva rally comes up short

Week six was a rough one for both local high school football teams.

After a stellar 3-0 start to the season, the Apopka Blue Darters have fallen on hard times. Apopka suffered its second loss of the season to the Sanford-Seminole Seminoles 21-3. Wekiva continued its see-saw ride of a season with a close loss to the Edgewater Eagles.

Edgewater 29, Wekiva 22

After taking a 9-0 lead in the first quarter, the Wekiva Mustangs allowed 22 unanswered points in the second quarter to the Edgewater Eagles and fell 29-22.

The Mustangs clawed back from the 13-point deficit to tie the game 22-22 in the fourth quarter on a 58-yard touchdown pass from Ty’Ray Davis to Jeremy Benjamin. But the Eagles reclaimed the lead and held on to improve their record to 6-0.

The Mustangs fell to 3-3 0n the year, and host the First Baptist Academy Lions (of Naples) who are 3-2 on the season.

Seminole 21, Apopka 3

It started as a defensive struggle.

But after a scoreless first quarter, Seminole quarterback Karson Saqueiros-Lasky hit David Parks on an 18-yard touchdown to take a 7-0 halftime lead, and cruise to a 21-3 victory. 

It was the second straight loss for the Blue Darters, who will take a 3-2 record to Orlando this Friday to face the Olympia Titans, who are 4-1 on the season.
