UF/IFAS Extension Orange County provides education and information to residents and businesses through workshops, publications, and mass media in the areas of family life, youth development, natural resources, horticulture, and agriculture. Current classes/events are listed on our events calendar.

Florida Lifestyles: Locally Grown in Orange County (In Person)

Learn how to incorporate healthy habits into your local lifestyle! Presented by your local Orange County Extension Agents, this 4-part series will focus on a different topic each week such as 1) Food & Nutrition, Fitness, 2) Finance, & Gardening, 3) Culture & Community, and will end with a 4) Harvest Party!

Beekeeping 101 – Is Beekeeping for Me? (Online)

Come learn if beekeeping is for you! In this very beginner class presented via Zoom by Orange County Extension Agent JK Yarborough, you'll learn about the important agricultural role honey bees play, how much it costs to get started, and the legality of keeping bees in your area. After this class, check out our Beekeeping 201 class!

Spring Vegetable Gardening (Online)

Presented by Orange County Extension Agent Calvin Gardner, this virtual class will cover vegetables that can be planted during Florida’s spring season, specifically cucurbits, nightshades, legumes, and crucifers. You learn how to plant, care for, and deal with possible pests/diseases for each of these families of plants.

Beekeeping 201 – Beekeeping Basics (In Person)

Learn about the awesome hobby of beekeeping! Presented by Orange County Extension Agent JK Yarborough, you will learn about a Langstroth hive, the colonies’ caste system, how to acquire bees, and more! True first-time beekeepers are encouraged, but not required, to attend Beekeeping 101 before this class.

Beekeeping 201L – Hitting the Hives (In Person) 

Orange County Extension Agent JK Yarborough is presenting a hands-on follow-up to Beekeeping 201* at the UF/IFAS Extension Seminole County in Sanford. You will learn how to light a smoker, choose the proper PPE for you, go through a routine hive inspection, do a varroa shake, and more! *Completion of Beekeeping 201 is required prior to taking this class.

Garden Festival and Plant Sale (In Person)

Join us for our annual UF/IFAS Extension Orange County Master Gardener Volunteer Garden Festival and Plant Sale! This free, fun-filled event features more than 40 plant, artisan, and craft vendors, plus educational sessions, workshops and demonstrations, a kid’s zone, garden tours, food trucks, and more! Our keynote speaker, UF/IFAS Emeritus Extension Agent Tom MacCubbin, will take the stage to talk about Bulbs for Florida Landscapes at 11:00 am.

Learn how to preserve floral material, press flowers, and how to arrange material in a decorative design. In this class, presented by Orange County Extension Agent Clarissa Chairez, you will make your own “unique” pressed flower art that you can take home to display with pride.

Spring Ranchers Forum (In Person)

Ranchers throughout Florida are invited to come to learn and celebrate the 24th Annual Spring Ranchers Forum at the Yarborough Ranch in rural Geneva, Florida, as guests of the Yarborough Family and the Central Florida Livestock Agents Group (CFLAG). The hands-on nature of the teaching makes it very popular with ranchers and farmers.

First Time Homebuyer Workshop - ENGLISH 3/17 & 3/24 (Online)

Learn the steps to home ownership and how to obtain an affordable mortgage in this 2-part online class offered via Zoom by a team of UF/IFAS Extension Agents, including Orange County Extension Agent Jenny Rodriguez. This homebuyer workshop meets the education requirements for down payment assistance programs.

Bat House Building Workshop (Online)

Green Industries Best Management Practices (GI-BMP) (In-Person)

A science-based educational program for lawn care and landscape maintenance workers. Pre-requisite for the Urban Fertilizer License. Presented by Orange County Extension Agent Hannah Wooten, this class covers proper fertilization, pest control, irrigation, and cultural practices for landscape and pest control professionals.

Strengthening Your Facilitation Skills (In-Person)
