Election season got underway Tuesday night at the Apopka Community Center with the Apopka Political Hob Nob sponsored by the Apopka Area Chamber of Commerce.
"With 280 attendees and great food by chamber members Lula Mae’s Eatery and Seafood Station of Apopka, the Apopka Hob Nob gave the community a great opportunity to hear from the candidates and ask about topics that matter to them," said Cate Manley, President & CEO, Apopka Area Chamber of Commerce. "As a 109-year-old Chamber of Commerce, we continue the tradition of hosting events that impact the business community. We wish the candidates the best of luck in the upcoming election. In the Apopka City Commission Seat #3 special election, former Seat #4 Commissioner Kyle Becker defeated first-time candidate Lynetta Johnson with 59 votes to Johnson's 52.
In the State House District 39 election, Apopka City Commissioner Doug Bankson (with 60 votes) edged Tiffany Hughes (54 votes), Charles Hart (40 votes), and Randy Ross (11 votes).
In the Orange County Commission District 2 election, Commissioner Christine Moore (69 votes), defeated Sandra Fatmi-Hall (51 votes) and Chris Delgado (32 votes).
