A series of vehicle burglaries reported across Apopka over a one-week span highlights a pattern of incidents spread across multiple neighborhoods, according to the latest report from the Apopka Police Department.
Between April 26 and May 2, police documented five auto burglaries at locations ranging from residential streets to a major roadway corridor.
Three of those incidents occurred on April 28, including two on Dekleva Drive—within the 800 and 1200 blocks—and another on Peak Circle, suggesting a concentrated cluster of activity on a single day.
The remaining cases were reported on Mcvilla Avenue on April 27 and along South Apopka Boulevard on April 30, extending the geographic spread beyond a single neighborhood.
While the report does not indicate whether the incidents are connected, the timing and proximity of several cases suggest opportunistic activity rather than isolated events.
Auto burglaries are among the most common property crimes, often involving unlocked vehicles or visible valuables left inside. Law enforcement agencies typically encourage residents to take preventive measures such as locking doors, removing personal items, and promptly reporting suspicious behavior.
The report notes that all incidents remain subject to change as investigations continue.
Here are a few tips to protect against home burglaries:
- Make your home look occupied, and make it difficult to break in.
- Lock all outside doors and windows before leaving or going to bed.
- Keep your garage door closed and locked.
- Don't allow daily deliveries of mail, newspapers, or flyers to build up while you are away. Arrange with the Post Office to hold your mail, or ask a friend or neighbor to pick it up regularly.
- Arrange your lawn to be mowed if you are going away for an extended time.
- Check your door and window locks and replace them with secure devices as necessary.
- Pushbutton locks on doorknobs are easy for burglars to open. Install deadbolt locks on all your outside doors.
- Sliding glass doors are vulnerable. Special locks are available for better security.
- Other windows may need better locks. Check with a locksmith or hardware store for alternatives.
- Don't share your vacation plans on social media.
The Apopka Police Department tells us that many vehicle burglaries could have been prevented if everyone remembered to do just two things:
- Remove all valuables from your vehicle
- Lock your car doors
