Are we really independent?

Happy Independence Day Apopka! I hope you enjoy the weekend and fireworks. I also want you to take a new perspective on independence.

Georgie, King of England, and his redcoats sort of messed up didn’t they? Think of it, if the powers that be had been a little less greedy when it came to taxing the colonies, just perhaps we would still be vassals to the crown!

Yeah, just think of it.

Just imagine... the entire history of our country would have been different. George Washington wouldn’t have taken that nighttime boat ride across the Delaware with his rag-tag army. There wouldn’t have been troops camped at Valley Forge, no Nathan Hale, and for certain there wouldn’t have been a Declaration of Independence!

Independence, twelve letters; but what does the word mean?

Are you or I really independent?

Stop and think about it…

From a very early age, we have been dependent. When we were in our snug little womb room we were dependent on our sweet mama to provide everything we needed.

Then, we were dependent on the teat for our nourishment.

Then we depended on those things we would eventually call our parents to change our didies and clean our sweet little bottoms.

Eventually, we learned to be dependent for everything necessary in life, you might even say that our very existence - food, clothing, shelter, cuddling, everything was provided... until?

We expected those provisions to be forthcoming. Yeah, until they weren’t! Forthcoming that is.

Our lives are dependent on others from our infancy onward. Mama and Daddy gave us everything we needed or demanded, and finally, we were kicked out of the nest to fare on our own.

And if, by some fluke, or freak chance, or perhaps a miracle, God is introduced into the mix, and we become dependent on him, well that is a dependence we can celebrate!

For when we become dependent on Him, it's like saying that we are no longer independent, but HIMDEPENDENT!

Wow, what a joy that is... Oh yes, What a joy!

Live fully,

Love openly,

And make a difference, today!

Dear Papa God, teach us... that we may lean on you always. In Jesus’ name we ask it, Amen
