Arbor Day celebrated by City of Apopka and Garden Club

Posted

Arbor Day is celebrated throughout the country to honor the role that trees play in the beauty and health of our environment. While the national official date is April 25, 2025, states commemorate the day based on their climate, choosing dates when trees are most likely to thrive. Thus, Florida observed Arbor Day on the third
Friday of January—a time when trees are dormant and successfully planted.

Locally, the City of Apopka received a tree obtained by the Foliage Garden Club of Apopka. The native Live Oak tree was donated by County Line Ornamental and Tree Company. The City Council chose a site in the Edgewood Cemetery which will enable so many within the community to enjoy its presence, and its presence will provide comfort to those who are visiting their loved ones and the grounds.

The tree was planted on Friday, January 17th by the Garden Club and a crew from the Apopka Parks and Recreation Department. Attending the ceremony was Mayor Bryan Nelson who read a proclamation recognizing Apopka as a historic Tree City and commemorating Arbor Day. Vice Mayor Dianne Velazquez and Commissioner Alex Smith also attended the ceremony.
