“The field is in great shape,” said a spokesperson at Edgewater High School. The athletic director and coaching staff checked it this morning. It could take on a lot more rain and still be good.”

The Eagles (0-1) are coming off a tough loss to cross-town rival Bishop Moore High School 42-6 in a game called “The Battle of College Park”.

“We have a lot of work to do and our kids know that,” said Edgewater Head Coach Chris Leak, the former quarterback who won a national championship at the University of Florida in 2007. “We have to get better.”fl-flehs1-letter-150

There was no name attributed to the Apopka – Ocoee game, but if there was it might have been called “The Beatdown at Roger Williams”. The Blue Darters (1-0) overwhelmed the Knights 62-7 with a 50-point first half barrage of 7 touchdowns. Their efforts in the opening game kept them atop the Associated Press Class 8 state poll.

Senior quarterback Dimitri Burch led the way last week with four touchdowns – two rushing and two through the air to Jackie Darlington and Damarus August. Sophomore running back Cornelius Williams also ran for two touchdowns in the rout.

Check back with The Apopka Voice tonight for the latest reports and results from the game.
