Apopka 25, Olympia 23

The Apopka Blue Darters shook off a two-game losing streak and rebounded in dramitic fashion. Trailing 23-22, Apopka Placekicker Hayden Kosicki hit a 42-yard field goal as time expired to give the Blue Darters a 25-22 win.

Apopka got off to a fast start and took the opening drive 77 yards, and scored on a six-yard touchdown run by Reggie McBride. The extra point was blocked and the Blue Darers took a 6-0 lead midway through the first quarter.

The Titans responded in the second quarter when Juan Gainous hit Romelo Walker for an eight-yard touchdown. The successful extra point gave Olympia a 7-6 lead early in the second period.

But the Blue Darters ran off 10 unanswered points to close out the first half.

Apopka's Nathan Jenkins III scored on a 16-yard touchdown run with 6:33 left in the quarter, but the kick was blocked again. Later in the period, Kosicki added a field goal and the Blue Darters led 15-7 at halftime.

Early in the third quarter, the Titans evened the score when Olympia Quarterback Juan Gainous hit Romelo Walker for a 60-yard touchdown. The two-point conversion was successful and the game was tied 15-15. But before the quarter ended, the Blue Darters regained the lead when Trey Muldrow scored on a one-yard run. The extra point was good, and Apopka led 22-15 late in the third quarter.

The score stayed that way for most of the final period, but with 2:51 left in the game, Olympia's Juan Gainous scored on a two-yard run, and followed that touchdown with a two-point conversion, which gave the Titans a 23-22 lead.

But Kosicki's field goal on the last play of the game improved the Blue Darters to 4-2 on the season. Olympia dropped to 4-2.

The Blue Darters return home this Friday to host the Lake Brantley Patriots, who are 1-5 on the season after losing to the Orlando Evans Spartans 48-7 on September 29th. The Patriots did not play last Friday.

Naples First Baptist 42, Wekiva 35

The Wekiva Mustangs lost a wild back and forth game against the Naples First Baptist Lions, the defending state champion in Class 1S. The Mustangs went into the fourth quarter tied 21-21, but surrendered three fourth quarter touchdowns to the Lions for a one touchdown loss.

Wekiva fell to 3-4 on the season. They host the Horizon Hawks of Winter Garden this Friday in a 3M-District 3 matchup. The Hawks are 4-2 on the season, and 0-0 in the district. Wekiva is 0-1 in the district.
