The Apopka Police Department is looking for a robbery suspect that fled an Apopka gas station on foot after robbing it at gunpoint, according to an APD Offense Report. It was the third gun-related incident of the weekend in the Apopka area.
A violent weekend in South Apopka
On Sunday, April 2nd at approximately 10:10 PM, APD Officer Greg Abrignani responded to an armed robbery call at 1305 West Orange Blossom Trail (Marathon Gas Station).
Upon arrival he met with an employee, who told Abrignani she had just finished with a customer when a black male wearing a blue beanie, camouflage bandana around his face, beige boots, blue jeans, a blue t-shirt and multi-color long sleeve undershirt and gloves, ran inside the store. The suspect grabbed a customer who was exiting and pushed him to the floor.
The suspect then pointed a silver gun at the employee and told her to, “Get on the floor!”
The suspect asked if she knew how to open the register. “I know how to open the register," she responded, "But I do not know how to open the safe.” The employee opened the register and placed all the cash into a plastic bag the suspect gave to her. The suspect then fled on foot.
The APD established a perimeter around the area but were unable to locate the robbery suspect. This is an active APD investigation, and no other details are being authorized for release. The Apopka Voice will update this story as more information is released or known.
