APD's annual Shop With a Cop program visits ICON Park this Saturday

Posted

Every child should be able to enjoy the magic of the holidays and a special gift from Santa. ICON Park and the Apopka Police Department are joining forces for the second year in a row to make sure underprivileged children can have a special time this holiday season.

ICON Park is proud to host the Apopka Police Department’s annual Shop With a Cop program as well as donate $500 to this great cause.

The Shop With a Cop program was designed to build positive relationships between police officers and the children of the community, especially those who are in need.

Each year, the participants are taken shopping by members of the Police Department, City Commission, and the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. The children receive money to spend on special gifts. Often these kids will want to buy presents for others, but the officers remind them they deserve a special treat as well.

At 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18, the officers and 30 children participating in the Shop With A Cop program will be visiting ICON Park. They’ll enjoy a complimentary lunch from The Wheelhouse Market Food Hall, which recently got a major upgrade. The children and officers will be able to enjoy delicious options from Chicken On Fire, Brick & Fire Pizza, and Tin & Taco. Afterward, the participants will get a 400-foot view of Orlando as they ride The Wheel, ICON Park’s signature attraction.

“At ICON Park, it’s our passion to create memorable experiences and we’re proud to be a part of the Apopka Police Department’s Annual Shop With a Cop program, which touches the lives of so many children,” said Chris Jaskiewicz, ICON Park president, and CEO. “We love giving back and connecting with our local community not only during the holiday season but all year long.”
