Apopka police recorded nine burglary-related incidents between May 3 and May 9, according to the department’s latest weekly burglary report.
The incidents included six commercial burglaries, two auto burglaries, and one residential burglary reported across multiple areas of the city.
Commercial burglaries accounted for the majority of reported incidents during the seven-day period.
According to the report, commercial burglaries were reported in the following areas:
- 1600 block of West Keene Road on May 4
- 2750 block of Arbor Dune Avenue on May 4
- 750 block of Wolf Creek Court on May 5
- 1250 block of South Apopka Boulevard on May 5
- 1000 block of Color Place on May 8
- 100 block of West Main Street on May 9
Police also documented two vehicle burglaries during the reporting period, including incidents in the 100 block of Hermit Smith Road on May 5 and the 50 block of East 2nd Street on May 6.
The report listed one residential burglary in the 920 block of West Orange Blossom Trail on May 6.
The burglary report states that all incidents remain subject to change as investigations continue.
Here are a few tips to protect against home burglaries:
- Make your home look occupied, and make it difficult to break in.
- Lock all outside doors and windows before leaving or going to bed.
- Keep your garage door closed and locked.
- Don't allow daily deliveries of mail, newspapers, or flyers to build up while you are away. Arrange with the Post Office to hold your mail, or arrange for a friend or neighbor to take them regularly.
- Arrange your lawn to be mowed if you are going away for an extended time.
- Check your locks on doors and windows and replace them with secure devices as necessary.
- Pushbutton locks on doorknobs are easy for burglars to open. Install deadbolt locks on all your outside doors.
- Sliding glass doors are vulnerable. Special locks are available for better security.
- Other windows may need better locks. Check with a locksmith or hardware store for alternatives.
- Don't share your vacation plans on social media.
The Apopka Police Department tells us that many vehicle burglaries could have been prevented if everyone remembered to do just two things:
- Remove all valuables from your vehicle
- Lock your car doors
