From the Apopka Police Department and Staff Reports
The Apopka Police Department made 18 arrests between May 3 and May 9, according to the department’s weekly arrest report, which also documented 24 crashes and 1,769 calls for service during the seven-day reporting period.
The report included arrests ranging from DUI and burglary to domestic battery, drug possession, warrants, and prostitution-related charges. Several arrests involved multiple charges stemming from the same incident.
One of the more serious incidents occurred on May 6 near East 2nd Street, where Orlando resident Eric Jamel Thomas, 37, was arrested on multiple charges, including domestic battery by strangulation, burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, criminal mischief, and a second or subsequent battery offense.
Another domestic battery by strangulation arrest was reported May 7 on Dreamy Day Street, where Douglas Isaiah Proctor, 38, of Apopka, was taken into custody.
Drug-related arrests also appeared in the report. Alan Mark Hecht, 63, of Clermont, was arrested May 8 near State Road 429 and Ocoee Apopka Road on charges of possessing drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine without a prescription.
The department also reported a DUI arrest May 4 involving a 24-year-old Kissimmee man at East 2nd Street and South Park Avenue.
Warrant arrests made up a notable portion of the week’s activity, including multiple out-of-county warrants served on Apopka resident Brandon Alex Balkom, 45, on May 9.
The juvenile section of the report listed three arrests involving charges that included assault, battery, and battery touch or strike.
The arrest report covers incidents and arrests recorded by the Apopka Police Department between May 3 and May 9. An arrest does not constitute a conviction, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
