Apopka Police Department donating $1,500 to Crimeline

From The Apopka Police Department

The Apopka Police Department will contribute $1,500 to Crimeline of Central Florida during Saturday’s 2016 Public Safety Day.

The donation will help to solve law enforcement cases in the Apopka area through Crimeline’s successful system of posting rewards for anonymous tips that lead to arrests. In the past 12 months, Crimeline has solicited more than 10,000 tips throughout Central Florida, resulting in 581 arrests, 736 cleared cases and roughly $3 million in recovered drugs.

The police department will present a check to Crimeline at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Apopka Amphitheater – the location inside the Northwest Recreation Complex where Public Safety Day will be held.

The free family event will feature displays and activities for all ages. Get up close with fire trucks, police cars, crime-scene van, rescue vehicle, mobile command unit and fire training tower. See the fire department’s massive tower truck with its 95-foot ladder, or the new heavy rescue vehicle.

Helicopters will be on display from Orlando Regional Medical Center and Florida Hospital. The police emergency response team will have a demonstration at 11a.m.

The police canine officers will be at 11:30 a.m. The fire department will present a mock vehicle extrication at 12:15 p.m. (vehicle courtesy of BJs Towing.) The police SWAT officers are at 1 p.m., and the fire department will have water hose fun for the kids at 1:30 p.m. (make sure to bring towels and change of clothes.) A fire tower demonstration also will be presented.

Face painting is provided by McDonald’s of Main Street and Rock Springs Road in Apopka. Try on fire gear and a SWAT suit. Practice with a fire hose.

Get finger-printed. See Sparky the Fire Dog and McGruff the Crime Dog. Meet Apopka’s police officers and firefighters.
