Pastor Darrell Morgan of the Word of Life Church in Apopka endorsed Commissioner Bill Arrowsmith (incumbent, running for seat #4), and Pastor Doug Bankson (candidate for Seat#3) in their City Commission elections.
"Bill Arrowsmith has been around a long time," said Morgan. "He has great experience as a City Commissioner. He balances out the City Council and keeps them grounded."
Morgan also pointed to his business expertise as his reason for endorsing Arrowsmith.
"He thinks like a businessman," said Morgan. "He's been a banker in this town for years. And when you have a banker with his level of expertise, you want him in."
Morgan also contrasted Arrowsmith's experience and his two opponent's inexperience with a story from his own life.
"When I was in seminary I had a philosophy of ministry, and it was just that - a philosophy. But after 30 years in ministry my philosophy is now rooted in experience. Bill Arrowsmith's philosophy of governing is rooted in experience. I believe his opponents have a philosophy, and they deserve a voice, just not a seat."
His endorsement of Bankson comes from his friendship and an understanding of his talents.
"Doug and I have been friends for years," he said. "He is knowledgeable, smart and has a heart for the city. He loves Apopka. He is a great guy, he has a balanced perspective and a lot of common sense. I think he will make a great Commissioner."
Morgan has been the pastor at Word of Life Church in Apopka since 1986.
