The Apopka Memorial Day service was held this morning at the Edgewood/Greenwood Cemetery, "To Honor the Lives and Legacy of All of Our Service Men and Women."
The service was hosted by Jim Greene, Sr. Vice Commander of Apopka VFW Post 10147. Madeline Mangas sang "The Star Spangled Banner" and "America the Beautiful." Noel Shanko gave an inspiring rendition of Johnny Cash's patriotic poem, "The Ragged Old Flag." Mathew Hutchinson played "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes.
Steve Deviese was the keynote speaker and caused everyone to reflect on the benefits enjoyed by not only Americans but the rest of the world due to the sacrifices of American veterans.
Mark Delle, Ed Velazquez, Ted Condo and Frank Biber fired the Gun Salute.
Mayor Joe Kilsheimer and all four commissioners; Doug Bankson, Kyle Becker, Billie Dean and Diane Velazquez attended the service.
