Representatives from 13 HOAs met last night to complete the final step in the formation of the Apopka Area Council of Neighborhood Associations (CONA), is now complete. Those preset represented more than 4,000 Apopka-area homeowners.

The initial set of officers were elected at last night's meeting, well all but one.

Mayor Joe Kilsheimer chaired the meeting until the President was elected.

Before the election occurred, the minutes of the June 14, 2016 meeting were discussed and approved, with one change. The Mission statement approved at the June meeting included the following sentence:

"Establish a documented working relationship the the City government to optimize the effectiveness of City policies and practices in order to provide continual improvement of issues common among neighborhoods."

The group agreed to eliminate the word "documented" from the sentence. It now reads:

"Establish a working relationship with the City government to optimize the effectiveness of City policies and practices in order to provide continual improvement of issues common among neighborhoods."

The group then moved on to to the election of officers.

First Vice President - Dale Fenwick representing the Lake Francis Association. 30 members.

Second Vice President - Bob Golf. Errol Estate Property Owners Association. 1,600 members.

Treasurer - Jerry Myers. Spring Harbor HOA. 110 members.

No one present was willing to stand for election to the position of Secretary.

After the elections Mayor Kilsheimer answered questions on several issues from the CONA members, including:

Status of the City Center Project including options for the Highland Manor

Current and future constructor activity at the Northwest Recreation Complex

Status of the traffic light at Yothers and Plymouth-Sorrento Road.

Reclaim Water

Needed concrete work in the Oak Ridge HOA

The next meeting of the Apopka CONA is scheduled for August 8, 2016. The location yet to be determined.

HOA's interested in joining the Apopka CONA should complete a Member Application form.

At previous meetings Mayor Kilsheimer described the purpose in forming the Apopka CONA, which is to allow HOAs to more easily trade information and more effectively communicate with the City of Apopka. The Mayor also stated that the Apopka CONA will not be a part of the City government. It will be independent, self supporting and self sustaining.
