The new natural grass multipurpose fields, each measuring 350 feet by 350 feet, will be located between Gates 4 and 5 off Appy Lane. According to the city, the fields are intended to “provide additional space for the Apopka community and support the complex’s ability to host larger athletic tournaments throughout the year.”
Construction is expected to begin within two weeks and continue through the summer.
The project follows earlier discussions by the Apopka City Council regarding the use of existing soccer fields at the complex and how they would be allocated among youth organizations. The council paused its initial approach and later considered a shared-use model.
According to previous reporting by The Apopka Voice, commissioners discussed cooperation and shared access to the fields during those meetings.
The city described the groundbreaking as “an exciting phase of expansion of the Northwest Recreation Complex.”
