APD reports five burglaries during June 28-July 4

Posted

The Apopka Police Department received reports of five burglaries during the week of June 28 through July 4, including three vehicle burglaries, one residential burglary, and one commercial burglary.

According to the department's weekly burglary report, the incidents were reported over a six-day period and occurred at locations across the city. Police emphasized that all reports remain subject to change as investigations continue.

Three of the reported cases involved burglaries of vehicles:

  • June 28: 230 block of Moonbeam Road.
  • June 28: 2940 block of Bickley Drive.
  • July 1: 500 block of Monica Rose Drive.

Officers also investigated a residential burglary reported July 2 in the 1290-1299 block of Marden Road.

The final burglary during the reporting period was a commercial burglary reported on July 3 in the 550 block of Lake Border Drive.

The weekly burglary report lists the general block where each incident occurred rather than specific addresses. Police note that the information is preliminary and may change as investigations progress.

Here are a few tips  to protect against home burglaries:

  • Make your home look occupied, and make it difficult to break in.
  • Lock all outside doors and windows before leaving or going to bed.
  • Keep your garage door closed and locked.
  • Don't allow daily deliveries of mail, newspapers, or flyers to build up while you are away. Arrange with the Post Office to hold your mail, or arrange for a friend or neighbor to take them regularly.
  • Arrange your lawn to be mowed if you are going away for an extended time.
  • Check your locks on doors and windows and replace them with secure devices as necessary.
  • Pushbutton locks on doorknobs are easy for burglars to open. Install deadbolt locks on all your outside doors.
  • Sliding glass doors are vulnerable. Special locks are available for better security.
  • Other windows may need better locks. Check with a locksmith or hardware store for alternatives.
  • Don't share your vacation plans on social media.

Chief Michael McKinley of the Apopka Police Department tells us that many vehicle burglaries could have been prevented if everyone remembered to do just two things:

  • Remove all valuables from your vehicle
  • Lock your car doors

The breakdown of the burglaries reported to the Apopka Police Department last week:
