APD hosts Bicycle Safety Rodeo this weekend

The Apopka Police Department will host a Bicycle Safety Rodeo from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, as part of the Fall Family Festival at Kit Land Nelson Park.

Bring the kids by the Kit Land Nelson Park tennis courts to meet the Apopka Police Department's bike officers. Get fitted for a free bike helmet. Different youth bicycle sizes will be available to try out the obstacle course. Also, receive free safety information.

Cycling is a fun and popular activity. The City of Apopka encourages kids to ride safely. Motorists should look out for children while driving through neighborhoods and around school zones.

Every year, about 300,000 kids go to emergency rooms because of bike injuries. At least 10,000 kids have injuries that require a few days in the hospital.
