Apopka Elections 2024

Anderson or Richardson? Nesta or Mock? Election Day in Apopka is here!

Posted

Good morning, Apopka. Welcome to Election Day 2024! It's been marked on our calendars and counted down, and now it's here.

The Apopka Voice will track two races today - the Seat #3 City Commission matchup and the Seat #4 City Commission contest.

Seat #3

Nadia Anderson

Darryl Richardson.
Darryl Richardson.

Nadia Anderson and Darryl Richardson face off to replace Commissioner Kyle Becker. Both are first-time candidates in Apopka and hope to immediately impact the City Council, which will be heading almost immediately into a budget season, as well as many other important issues facing the city.

Becker was perhaps the most influential commissioner during his time on the Council, starting in 2016.

Seat #4

Eric Mock

Apopka City Commissioner Nick Nesta

Incumbent Nick Nesta is taking on Eric Mock for the second straight election cycle. Nesta won with 59% of the vote last time and has sat in Seat #4 for two years. Mock was appointed to the Apopka Planning Commission, and chose to run against an incumbent instead of running for an open seat. Which candidate will prevail this time?

One thing is certain: the Apopka City Council will look different when this day concludes.

History of Election Coverage

This is the fifth General Election Day event The Apopka Voice will cover and the 15th election event (runoffs, primaries, special elections, and November elections) in its history. As always, expect no less than comprehensive reporting beginning at sunrise and ending when the last ballot is counted, and then post-election coverage in future editions.

Stay with The Apopka Voice all day for wall-to-wall coverage of these elections. During the day, look for coverage of the polling places, turnout updates, and election results as soon as they are known.

Check back Wednesday for an analysis of the races... who won, who lost, why, what lies ahead for the City Council, and what it means for Apopka.

So grab a steaming cup of coffee, settle in, and watch democracy in action in your hometown. Then, be sure to get out and vote if you haven't already.
