The Dreams of Joy Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to granting wishes to adults aged 21 to 65 battling terminal illnesses and was founded by Mindy Bess in honor of her father, Apopka resident James Bess, who passed away from brain cancer.
James’ wish was to meet and greet the great Garth Brooks. However, James died without fulfilling his wish due to a lack of resources. In response to that situation, the Dreams of Joy Foundation was formed. It began granting wishes in August 2017; as of May 2025, it has funded the dreams of 47 people.
The foundation aims to bring hope and joy to individuals facing life-limiting conditions by fulfilling their dreams. Whether meeting a favorite celebrity, attending a special event, or experiencing a long-held aspiration, Dreams of Joy strives to make these moments possible, believing everyone deserves to fulfill their dreams, especially during challenging times.
Although this tournament benefits the Dreams of Joy Foundation, it is our honor and privilege to work with first responders from the City of Apopka to create a competitive and fun-filled event for the entire family.
