AFD celebrates Lt. Mandy Mathis as 2023 Firefighter of the Year

In a community where bravery and dedication are hallmarks of the Apopka Fire Department, Lieutenant Mandy Mathis stands out as a beacon of excellence. Named the Firefighter of the Year for 2023, Mathis's journey and achievements reflect the highest standards of commitment and professionalism.
 
The announcement comes as Apopka is honoring the memory of Austin Duran during the 15 Days of Hope event. Duran was voted the 2022 Firefighter of the Year. 

Mathis started her career with the AFD in 2013. Over the past decade, she has climbed the ranks through sheer determination and exemplary performance, culminating in her current role as Lieutenant at Fire Station 1 A-shift. Her progression within the department is a testament to her relentless pursuit of excellence and her unwavering dedication to her duties.

On its Facebook page, the AFD writes:

"Throughout her tenure, Mathis has consistently demonstrated unparalleled commitment, professionalism, and courage. These qualities have not only earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues but have also established her as a cornerstone of the department. Her actions and attitude embody the very essence of what it means to be an Apopka firefighter, serving as a daily reminder of the noble ideals the department strives to uphold."

According to the post, Mathis's influence extends deeply into the lives of those she works with and serves.
