AAA: Oil price surge could send Florida gas prices higher this week

Apopka drivers face renewed pressure at the pump as Florida’s average settles at $4.11 per gallon and crude oil climbs above $100 a barrel

Posted

Florida gas prices jumped early last week, reaching $4.23 per gallon on Thursday before declining through the weekend.

Sunday's state average of $4.11 per gallon is:

  • 2 cents more than a week ago
  • 22 cents less than last month
  • $1.19 more than a year ago

The highest daily average price in 2026 was $4.52 per gallon (May 21). The lowest daily average price was $2.67/g (January).

Drivers are paying $62 to fill an average-size 15-gallon gas tank. That's $18 more than what drivers paid a year ago.

"Oil prices went back above $100 a barrel last week, which could trigger another round of rising prices at the pump this week," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA - The Auto Club Group.

The U.S. price for crude rose 10% last week, climbing from $91.85/b the previous week to $101.41/b on Friday. A $10 increase in crude oil prices could translate to a 25-cent increase at the pump.

Oil prices rose last week amid growing concerns about global supplies. Escalating tensions in the Middle East disrupted oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, while renewed attacks on Russian energy infrastructure threatened additional supplies. A sharp decline in U.S. crude inventories added further upward pressure on prices.
