Music, Fireworks and Barbecue are the features
Country Music returns to Apopka this weekend when the Sixth Annual Old Florida Outdoor Festival returns to the Northwest Recreation Complex.
Rodney Atkins and David Nail perform Saturday night, while Jill's Cashbox takes the stage on Friday. Fireworks will also be a feature on Friday night.
The Sonny's Barbecue Blast state championship is on Friday and Saturday, with at least 133 competition teams scheduled to compete. This is the most ever for the Old Florida Outdoor Festival and for the Florida BBQ Association, which sanctions the event.
The festival's first-ever steak cook-off on Friday night is up to 42 competition teams.
Kids can enjoy Florida Hospital's expanded Kids Fun Zone Friday and Saturday and petting zoos on Saturday. The big show of classic cars is also on Saturday, as well as helicopter rides.
The festival runs from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. Concerts begin at 6 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday. Fireworks are at 9 p.m. Friday.
Admission is free. Parking is $10. Kids get unlimited Fun Zone access for $10. Helicopter rides are $25 per person. The City of Apopka is the primary sponsor of the event.
