The long-awaited repaving of U.S. Highway 441 through Apopka will begin by July 28.
The $5.2 million project by the Florida Department of Transportation will resurface all lanes of U.S. 441 – roughly 3.8 miles – from Sprint Boulevard (south of Hiawassee Road) to Central Ave (a block west of Park Avenue). Work will exclude the interchange at U.S. 441 and State Road 436.
Construction is expected to take up to 250 days, or a little more than 8 months. Repaving is scheduled mostly at night and will close one lane at a time.
Work will include milling the old roadway and applying new asphalt. Other supplemental roadway improvements including sidewalks also are planned. Design of the project started back in 2013.
