Last night at approximately 7:11 p.m., Apopka Officers responded to Park Avenue and Davis Court in reference to gunshots in the area. Officers set up a perimeter, closed off streets, and evacuated many residents. Investigating officers developed information that two residents within the area were shooting at each other.

Contact was made with Denroy Samuels who told officers he had been in a verbal confrontation with a neighbor on Davis Court when the neighbor (Bridges) retrieved a rifle and threatened him. Samuels retrieved his own handgun in order to defend himself, and the two began to fire shots at each other.

Neither was reported to have been struck.

A second victim, Rodricka Penn, called APD and reported her vehicle was struck by several rounds as she drove south on Park Avenue past Davis Court. She was uninjured.

Apopka detectives responded to the scene and identified Bridges as the shooter. A search warrant for Bridges residence was obtained along with an arrest warrant for Bridges. Around 5 a.m., the Apopka metro SWAT team served the search warrant on the Bridges residence. Apopka crime scene personnel recovered shell casings, Samuels’ weapon from another residence, and other evidence.

Bridges’ rifle was not located and Bridges was not at the scene. Bridges, however, was located later and arrested. No officers or citizens were injured.

No other details are known at this time. The Apopka Voice will update this story as details are known.
