The 26th annual Zellwood Memorial Day service was held this morning at the Conquest Cemetery. The service was "Dedicated to the memory of the men and women who have served this great nation, preserving the freedom and peace we now enjoy."
Nearly 200 people attended the event which opened with an Artillery Salute. The gun was fired by Dwight Doggett who founded the Zellwood Memorial Day service in 1990 and retired last year after 25 continuous years of service.
Another feature was Howard Yates playing "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes.
Perhaps the most moving part of the service was the reading of the names of the veterans who were buried in Conquest Cemetery. There was at least one veteran from each major conflict named, including one from the Civil War.
A unique component of the service is the placing of flags and flowers on each of the veterans' graves.
