Victory Church in Apopka is hosting a Birthday Memorial for Former Mayor John Land
Victory Church Apopka will be hosting a birthday memorial for Former Mayor John Land, taking place at Victory Church on Sunday, November 6th at 11:00 AM during their 2nd service.
John Land served as Mayor of Apopka for a total of 61 years, from 1950 to 1968 and again from 1971 to 2014. He was the longest-serving mayor in the history of Florida and one of the longest-serving mayors in the United States.
On November 21, 2014, Land suffered a massive stroke and died on November 22, 2014, at age 94.
"We’re blessed to have the opportunity to honor Mayor Land who served this community with dignity, honor, and integrity," said Senior Pastor Doug Bankson. "His love for the people of this great city will never be forgotten! We invite anyone from the public who would like to join and share with us as we remember his legacy."
Bankson added that an old-fashioned ice cream social will happen after the service in Mayor Land's honor.
