Florida 511 provides real-time road conditions

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) reminds travelers in Florida to prepare for severe weather by adding Florida’s 511 Traveler Information System to their emergency plans. The Florida 511 system provides information on traffic conditions, including road closures, emergency alerts, evacuation routes, toll suspensions and more before, during and after severe weather.

From planning an evacuation route to receiving real-time traffic alerts, Florida 511 is the number one source for drivers during a severe weather emergency. “If you are in your car and you know severe weather is imminent, the first thing I would recommend is FL511,” said Trooper Steven Montiero of the Florida Highway Patrol. “Check to see if the major roadways are clear, if there are major traffic incidents on the roadway and prepare for any disaster that might take place.”

There are five convenient ways for all motorists to receive traffic updates:

  • Download the free Florida 511 mobile app available on Google Play or Apple App Store.
  • Call 511 toll-free for updates in English and Spanish.
  • Visit FL511.com for interactive roadway maps showing traffic congestion and crashes, travel times and traffic camera views.
  • Sign up for a “My Florida 511” account at FL511.com to create custom routes and register for email, text or phone alerts.
  • Follow one of the 13 statewide, regional or roadway-specific Twitter feeds (#FL511).

In addition, FL511.com provides links to county emergency resources, weather reports, and advisories. The “Emergency Info” tab on FL511.com also may provide additional information on major road closures and alternate routes. Through FL511.com, individuals can make safety plans ahead of time by creating custom evacuation routes for themselves or a group. By making a My Florida 511 account, users can create multiple evacuation routes throughout the state and sign up for time and route-specific text message, email or phone call alerts

FDOT reminds all travelers to check 511 before traveling, have a passenger check 511 or pull over to avoid distracted driving.
