Traffic Alert: Congestion warning for Martin Street near Apopka High School

Posted

Residents and commuters in the Apopka area should prepare for significant traffic disruptions along Martin Street in front of Apopka High School starting this week and lasting through February 28th, 2025, due to essential infrastructure improvements.

The Apopka Public Services Department has announced that contractors will be undertaking a major project to replace the aging water main pipe along Martin Street. This critical upgrade aims to enhance water service reliability and address existing infrastructure concerns. However, it will necessitate roadwork that will impact traffic flow in the area.

Motorists are advised to avoid parking or traveling on Martin Street near Apopka High School whenever possible during this period. The construction work will require the temporary closure of part of the road, inevitably leading to increased congestion and delays. Commuters are encouraged to seek alternate routes to minimize inconvenience and avoid the affected zone.

Drivers should exercise extra caution during construction. Construction equipment and altered road conditions may present hazards, so reduced speeds and heightened awareness are recommended.

The public is urged to regularly check the City website for the latest developments and changes to the construction schedule. The department will provide updates and additional information as the project progresses.

If residents have immediate concerns or need further information about the construction and its impact, they can contact Public Services at 407-703-1731.

Oh great, wish they would have planned to do this work when school was out for the summer, instead of now, through Feb. 28th, 2025. A few years back our street had new water service lines put in, pushed underground with that big ol' boring machine that was set up in my yard. They finally got done, and I had to do some touching up the grass, and smoothing the holes. Next go round, was the contractors digging in our yard for the AT&T internet, pushing those tubing and wiring through. I would fix our yard back, and off and on, they kept returning doing more stuff. I've got two extra cement boxes in our yard now, and painted markings on the curb, and grass. Today two city employees were walking around out front, and I sent my husband to find out what's going on. He talked to them, and said they were spray painting the road, and grass, to mark locates. They said it was for Duke Energy because they were coming back to do some work around the yard front, and now, I read this major water main pipe project replacement will last until next year here near the AHS? We can't even get in and out of our street now, for the school traffic.

    Calgon, take me away.......please!
