Thompson Road cleanup in Apopka a huge success

Posted

More than 100 residents, students, and church members joined Orange County Commissioner District 2 Christine Moore over two days to clean up Thompson Road between Votaw and Welch roads.

On March 5th and 6th, students from Apopka High School’s Student Government Association, Apopka High School teachers Mr.  Wagner and Mr. Peters, nearby residents, and members of the Apopka 7th-Day Adventist Church pitched in to do everything from trim trees to paint fences.

At the front of the Rolling Oaks subdivision, volunteers tore out old flowers and foliage and painted the concrete signage with new colors. They pressure-washed sidewalks and trimmed trees and bushes that had not been touched in many years. Rolling Oaks residents laid sod and added decorative touches.

A special thanks to the kindness of Home Depot Apopka and Apopka Ace Hardware for donating paint supplies.

Commissioner Christine Moore said, “We focused on this stretch of Thompson to paint fences, where in some cases homeowners couldn’t paint their fences on their own. Near Welch Road, volunteers cut through overgrown trees so the sidewalk is in clear view for pedestrians, but, the biggest change came at the Rolling Oaks entranceway. I am grateful to each and every person who donated their time and resources to make this happen.”

The commissioner has more clean-ups scheduled throughout District 2 during the rest of 2022. If you would like to volunteer, please call her office at 407.836.5850.
