The Old Fishing Hole

Posted

There was never a time when I was a little boy kid that I visited the old fishing hole and was disappointed!

When I was a runty little boy kid about the size of an undernourished wart on a baby toad’s behind, I knew where all the best fishing holes in our part of the Fox River back in Illinois were.  If, for instance, I wanted to catch some bass, I would head for the swift water and the rapids, and I was always rewarded.  Boy, those small-mouth bass were some good eating!

One of my favorite fishing holes was a little glory hole that always produced nice yellow belly bullheads!

Boy, the fishing was good!

I remember sitting in the grass with my feet in the cool water, just waiting and watching, then suddenly I would get a bite, and just like that, I would soon have my reward!

Today I am still fishing, but it is much different, and so is the reward!

Instead of a fishing pole and a hook baited with worms, now I am praying to our God, and do you know what? He is always there to answer my call and answer my prayers.  Yeah, that’s always productive, isn’t it?  I would say so!

Papa God, we thank you for your great love and willingness to reward your children.  We love you and praise you. In Jesus’ beautiful name, we ask it, Amen

Hey Chuck, My Grandparents lived by a lake in Wisconsin and some of my fondest memories are fishing with Grandpa who also knew all the spots to go for Bass, Northern Pike and if he was busy I would fish off the end of the pier for sunfish and bluegills, you know pan fish. They had a compost heap in the yard so there were always worms and I had my Bamboo cane pole soo I was all set! I didn't much care for the part about cleaning them so Grandma could cook them, come to think of it, I still do not know which of them made that rule, but I have my theory because Grandpa would sometimes help me!

Our God does not break his promises, or go back on his word so, didn't Jesus himself promise to make his guys also into "fishers of men?" And since we are also his guys, so we too can cast our nets and enjoy this promise to this very day!

Richard, can you imagine going fishing with Jesus? That certainly is the ultimate fish finder! Fishing, when you know where the lunkers are is capital, don't you think. I have always loved fishing for panfish, but my favorite part of that was the eating! Bless you my friend, Chaz
