In March, representatives for the San Miguel's Mexican Grille submitted a concept plan to remodel a now-vacant, 5,800-square-foot restaurant building at Crosby's Motor Inn, 1440 W. Orange Blossom Trail, to include a new façade and other improvements.
The restaurant will be named in honor of Pulse nightclub victim Miguel Angel Honorato, whose family operates other businesses and plans to open this restaurant later this year.
Today a representative for the family submitted the permit construction application that - if approved by the city - will get this project started.
Proposed changes include demolition of 956 square feet of existing dining room area and 200 feet of existing screened porch. A new northern wall and roofed porch would be built - providing an attractive facade for the restaurant.
Miguel Honorato and his brother Jose managed two of several Central Florida restaurants operated by the Honorato family. Among them are five of the Tortilleria La Mexicana restaurants in Apopka, Kissimmee, Orlando and Sanford. They also ran a catering business.
Miguel Honorato was among the 49 victims lost last June in the Pulse nightclub tragedy – the largest mass shooting in modern American history.
