RSR residents re-elect Chase, McSweeney to HOA Board

Posted
Three hundred twenty-three ballots have never spoken louder.

Despite a low turnout of voters among the 1,320 eligible homeowners, Rock Springs Ridge residents re-elected Gary McSweeney, and Michelle Chase for another two-year term on the RSR Homeowners Association Board. They are joined by new members by Burt Fairchild and David Marshall.

John Drago, a current board member, has one year remaining on his two-year term, and is the fifth member of the Board.

The 322 votes represent slightly under 25% of the eligible homeowners at RSR who participated in the election.

The Final Results of the election among the nine candidates were:

  • Michelle Chase 240 votes (re-elected)
  • Gary McSweeney 228 (re-elected)
  • Burt Fairchild 217 (elected)
  • David Marshall - 191 (elected)
  • Hank Dunn - 143
  • Ray Glover - 125
  • Sylvester Hall - 125
  • Scott Sherrer - 104
  • Timothy Ondrey - 69

There were also 16 ballots rejected and 10 write-in votes cast.

Voters were told to choose exactly four candidates on their ballot.

Because they were the top three vote getters, Chase, McSweeney, and Fairchild will serve two-year terms. Marshall, because he came in fourth place, will serve the remaining one year term of former Treasurer Jerry Schafrath, who resigned in 2021.

Specialty Management, the HOA management company that served RSR for over two decades before terminating its agreement in March, was on hand at the Apopka Amphitheater to count the ballots and certify the election.

Over 200 residents were on hand to watch the votes being counted.

The results of the election further cement the current land swap between the RSR HOA and the Golf Group - which owns the RSR golf course lands. The current Letter of Intent between the two parties would swap the 51-acre Gopher Tortoise Conservation Area on Kelly Park Road for the golf course lands, along with deferred payments by the Golf Group.
