On January 15th, the Apopka City Council voted 5-0 to make a local early voting site a reality in the 2022 election. That vote is proving to be a wise one.
Apopka voters continue to pour into the VFW/Apopka Community Center this week for early voting. And after just three days, 743 Apopka residents have cast their ballots. That, combined with 2,677 vote-by-mail ballots already received means 3,420 voters have weighed in for the 2022 Apopka Municipal elections.
That figure is well above the entire early voting totals for 2018, when 2,631 votes were cast. And with three more days of early voting, it's likely that 2022 could be the largest turnout for a mayoral election in Apopka history.
In 2018, 6,492 voters participated, which was a 20.7% turnout rate.
According to the Orange County Supervisor of Elections, 1,476 (43.15%) of the ballots received are from registered Republicans, 1,327 (38.8%) are from Democrats, and 617 (18.0%) are listed as independent, no party affiliation, or others.
Early voting is at the Apopka Community Center (VFW) located at 519 S. Central Avenue, Apopka, FL 32703.
Early voting will also be held at Orange County Supervisor of Elections located at 119 W. Kaley Street, Orlando, FL 32806.
Voters should go to their assigned polling location on Election Day on Tuesday, March 8, 2022.
