Orange County Election Official: "Early voting in Apopka the same for last 10 years"

Early voting in Apopka’s April 12th runoff will be at The Orange County Supervisor of Elections Office Building at 119 West Kaley Street in Orlando, according to an Orange County Division of Elections official. Early voting will be from April 4th through April 8th. Absentee ballots will automatically be mailed to Apopka voters who requested absentee ballots for the General Election. If you did not request an absentee ballot, you may still contact the Department and request one at 407/836-2070.

According to Cindy Clark, Senior Deputy in the Elections Department, early voting is almost always conducted at Orange County Supervisor of Elections Office in all 11 Orange County Municipalities including Apopka.

“One time over 10 years ago Apopka conducted early voting for a runoff at City Hall,” she said. “But not since then. No one has had early voting in its city since then. Not any of the Municipalities.”

Earlier in the day, it was reported on “Apopka Community Facts, Uncensored” that Mayor Joe Kilsheimer did not allow early voting in Apopka. Kilsheimer denies the allegation.

On the site it stated:

“Sooo the word is on the street that the only way to early vote is to go to the Stupidvisor of Elections office down town Orlando. WHAT!!##¥₩£€. was also told the only place to vote on election day was VFW Hall...I mean Joe's community center. Say it ain't so Joe! I was also told that Joe said the city didn't have the funds to help pay for early election sites. Now I wonder how that could be possible? You just can't make this stuff up!”

“I’ve never heard of that,” said Kilsheimer, when asked about him playing a role in early voting being held in Orlando and not in Apopka. “I have a hands off policy regarding elections.”

Kilsheimer provided a Mayor's Proclamation dated and certified December 2nd, 2015 in regards to the City Commission elections. In the document it states:

“In the event it becomes necessary to have a run-off election, this will be held on Tuesday, April 12th, 2016 from 7am to 7pm at The Apopka Community Center/VFW Post #10147, 519 South Central Avenue Apopka, Florida. Early voting will be available through the Orange County Supervisor of Elections Office, 119 West Kaley Street, Orlando, Florida, Monday April4, 2016, through Friday April 8, 2016 from 8am to 5pm.”
