Loaves & Fishes announces holiday schedule

Posted

Loaves & Fishes has served the Apopka community since 1984 when area churches combined their resources to create a ministry to help those less fortunate. Without the community's help this holiday season will be anything but joyous for many in Apopka. Here is how you can help.

Turkey Pledges

Loaves & Fishes hopes to provide a turkey to every family this Thanksgiving along with all the traditional holiday food. Let them know if you, your group, organization, or church would be able to pledge a turkey or turkeys! Or make it even easier...with their ability to purchase food at a large discount, your monetary donation can help purchase multiple turkeys for about what it would cost you to buy just one! Just note "Turkey" on the memo line of your check made out to Loaves & Fishes. Questions? Call us at 407-886-6005 and ask for Lory or Karen.

Angel Trees

Please consider putting up a Christmas tree in your church or workplace with hanging ornaments listing a toy on the back. Individuals take an ornament and place an unwrapped toy under the tree. This could be a fun project for the whole family or co-workers! If you are interested and would like Loaves & Fishes to print labels for you, contact Karen or Lory at (407)886-6005.

Love Chocolate?

This year Loaves & Fishes will fill approximately 550 tins with Hershey's miniature chocolates & Kisses as a "family 'gift' on behalf of Loaves & Fishes and the community. This requires a HUGE amount of chocolate so they need to start collecting now. They have found Costco sells the miniatures and Kisses in bulk at a reasonable cost. In addition, they need of 900 full-sized candy bars to include two in each child's Christmas bag. Donations are needed by November 1st so volunteers have enough time to fill the tins.

Christmas Distribution

Loaves & Fishes was able to help provide Christmas gifts to 977 children last year.

This year, the Christmas distribution will be December 19-22 and they will be CLOSED after the distribution on December 23rd to give their volunteers a much needed break! Loaves & Fishes will reopen on January 9th.

Since the distribution is December 19-22 they are asking that all donations be delivered by Friday, December 16th. They will be open from 9:00-12:00 accepting donations or please call.

About Loaves & Fishes

Loaves & Fishes was created in 1984. Area churches combined their resources to create a ministry to help those less fortunate. Now the need is even greater as the nation's economic slump puts more people in desperate circumstances.

Loaves & Fishes is funded by contributions from churches, businesses, schools, civic groups and individuals. There are a number of churches that support our ministry in many different ways. There are only three paid employees. Services and daily duties are provided by 135 volunteers.

Loaves & Fishes serves 400 families every week. These families are screened and proven to have legitimate needs.
