Hurricane Helene: The Aftermath

City of Apopka begins Hurricane Helene yard debris pickups

Posted

As residents of Apopka continue to assess the impact of Hurricane Helene, the city is stepping up to support their cleanup efforts.

Despite Hurricane Helene mainly causing minor damage in Apopka, local officials emphasize the importance of promptly cleaning up yards and properties. With even small amounts of debris posing potential hazards, residents are encouraged to participate in cleanup efforts to ensure safety and maintain the community’s appearance. Taking swift action not only supports personal property but also contributes to the overall resilience of the neighborhood in the aftermath of the storm.

The City released the following statement about debris collection in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene:

The City of Apopka’s Sanitation Division will take all properly prepared storm and regular yard maintenance debris.

Although Hurricane Helene did not leave behind a large amount of debris, we anticipate a significant enough increase to put us behind schedule for the next few days.

Please prepare all storm-related debris as you would normal yard waste, which is less than 30 pounds per bag or container and less than 5 feet long. For the next two weeks, the usual charges for over four cubic yards will be waived. This is for extra debris related to the storm only. Please refrain from large elective tree and brush trimming projects during this time.

Once we are back on schedule, you may resume regular maintenance. Thank you for your patience.
