How To Take Your Life Satisfaction To The Next Level

Posted

When it comes to life satisfaction, we can be our own worst enemies. We look forward to events in our calendar, only to half enjoy them (or not enjoy them at all), when they arrive.

The holiday season is a good example. It should be a period of festive cheer, relaxation and spending time with family and friends. But all too often, we’re worried about whether we’ve bought the right gifts and what our in-laws think about us.

The good news, though, is that taking your life to the next level in terms of satisfaction is almost entirely in your hands. It’s all about getting the mental and physical game right. Here’s what you need to do:

Get out of your head

If you’re stuck in your head all day and you have poor "mental hygiene", you’ll quickly run into trouble. That nagging voice that’s always bringing you down will tell you that you can’t do the things that you’ve always wanted to do, or feel the things that you’ve always wanted to feel. Instead, you’ll get a list of reasons why your life can’t be better – and they’ll sound plausible.

The trick here is to get out of your head and focus more on what’s going on around you. All the people who lived incredible lives did so by forgetting about themselves for a while and simply focusing on something in the external environment. They got comfortable with giving their attention to others instead of going in circles in their own minds.

Recognize that your body and mind are not separate

Can you have a healthy mental life inside an unhealthy and neglected physical body? Possibly, but it’s rare. You’ll almost always find that the happiest people always take care of their form.

In the West, we operate on the assumption that mind and body are two distinct things. But, actually, they are part of a single whole, each affecting the other. Separating them doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Try looking after your body more. Think about how you could improve how it functions. Look at your diet and exercise routine and ask if you could make improvements.

Eliminate your pain

It’s hard to take life satisfaction to the next level if you’re in pain. That’s why so many people are now using CBD patches to largely eliminate it. They want to be at their best all the time, not dragged down by tense and uncomfortable sensations.

Reducing pain isn’t always possible, but it is worth a shot. Once it’s in the rearview mirror, the whole of life will open up.

Be selfish first, then kind

If you’re a naturally giving person, it can be hard to be selfish sometimes. You spend all your time worrying about other people, you don’t consider yourself.

However, this approach doesn’t work for anyone. It harms you because you don’t take care of yourself. And it harms others because you’re not at your best.

If you’re selfless, allow yourself the occasional bout of selfishness, which isn't selfish at all but actually healthy self-care. Take time out when you’re tired and focus on your own spiritual and mental wellbeing.
