Fred Brummer, a giant in local politics, has died at 77. Brummer served as a representative in the Florida Legislature from 1998-2006 and an Orange County Commissioner from 2006-2014.
Brummer moved to Florida in 1957. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Masters of Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University. In 1976, he earned qualification as a Certified Public Accountant.
As a CPA with Brummer & Rogers, PA, CPA, he has practiced accounting in Apopka since 1981. Before beginning his private accounting practice, Brummer had ten years of government accounting and budget control experience.
He was a member of both the American and Florida Institutes of CPAs.
Brummer always considered community service to be the most significant quality necessary to holding public office. He chaired the Orange County School Overcrowding Committee, been a member of the Orange County Membership and Mission Review Board, Orange County Public Schools Finance Advisory Committee, the Wekiva Basin Area Task Force, the Wekiva River Basin Coordinating Committee, Lake County Fire & Emergency Service Advisory Committee, City of Apopka Fire Pension Board and served as President of the Apopka Rotary Club.
His dedicated work in local civic organizations earned Brummer service awards from the Apopka Improvement Association, Apopka Area Chamber of Commerce, and Apopka Rotary Club. In addition, he was named the Businessman of the Year Award from the Apopka Area Chamber of Commerce in 1991 and Rotarian of the Year in 1993.
