Depression Strengthens - Now Tropical Storm Colin

Reports from an Air Force Reserve Unit Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicate that Tropical Depression #3 is now a tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.

Effects of Tropical Storm Colin to be felt in Florida as early as tomorrow afternoon.

The National Hurricane Center has upgraded Depression #3 to Tropical Storm Colin at 5:30 PM today.

tropical storm colin 2Tropical Storm Colin Colin is expected to bring heavy rains to the Florida peninsula. The official track shows it making landfall well north of Tampa but the rain impact is predicted to be wide-spread.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect from Indian Pass to Englewood. A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area, in this case within 24 hours.

The depression is expected to produce rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches with isolated maximum totals of 8 inches possible across the northeastern Yucatan peninsula, western Cuba, and Florida.

Tropical storm conditions are expected to first reach the coast within the warning area by Monday afternoon.

A few tornadoes are possible on Monday across portions of Florida and far southern Georgia.

The National Hurricane Center is expected to issue its next update at 8:00 PM.
