City: Due to volume of debris, yard waste pickup in Apopka is running slowly
Posted
From the City of Apopka
In its weekly newsletter, the City of Apopka released information on its sanitation schedule and updates on County, State, and FEMA's progress in removing debris, federal assistance, disaster recovery centers, and other resources in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian.
Sanitation Schedule
Sanitation is picking up garbage as well as small yard debris in bags or cans. Due to the volume of debris, yard waste is running slowly. We appreciate your patience as we continue our efforts to clean up in the aftermath of this storm.
FEMA Debris Removal
The City’s FEMA Contractor, Crowder Gulf, began debris removal in neighborhoods. They have five 150-yard claw trucks on the streets collecting debris in the City.
They will be making multiple passes through neighborhoods and we will advertise when the second pass starts. They will be addressing leaning trees and hanging limbs after the 1st pass. The City also has three claw trucks collecting debris.
NOTE: THE CONTRACTORS WILL BE PICKING UP VEGETATION DEBRIS ONLY. DO NOT MIX CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS (fences, plywood, lumber, etc.) OR TRASH WITH THE VEGETATION DEBRIS. We have strict FEMA guidelines to follow.
Reminder: FEMA is helping our community with storm-related debris. This pickup is not for new tree trimming or tree removal. Removal of new debris that is not storm-related are subject to homeowner charges.
Debris Site at Northwest Recreation Complex open until November 4th
If you would prefer NOTto wait for the FEMA contractor to pick up your vegetation debris, you can drop it off at our free drop-off location. The site is located at the Northwest Recreation Complex. Please access this site via Appy Lane. The hours of operation are 7 AM to 7 PM.
This site will remain open until Friday, November 4, 2022
Please Note: Only vegetation debris will be accepted at this location. No construction debris (fences, lumber, etc.) or trash will be accepted.
Thank you for being so patient as our crews work diligently to return City operations to normal. Continue to visit our Hurricane Preparedness page for resources, updates, safety tips, and additional City information.
