As Tropical Storm Nicole transitions into Hurricane Nicole, she leaves a trail of canceled events in her wake. Now the Apopka Blue Darters and Wekiva Mustangs are feeling her wrath.

Apopka and Wekiva were scheduled to begin their playoff seasons on Friday, but they will both have to wait an extra day because of Nicole's approach.

On Saturday at 5:30pm, Apopka will host the Boone Braves in the first round of the Class 4M Region 1 playoffs. Wekiva travels to Orlando to face the Jones Tigers in the first round of the Class 3M Region 1 playoffs, also on Saturday. Kickoff is at 6pm.

Apopka opens the postseason as the number two seed in the region.  Boone is the #7 seed in the region with a 6-4 record. The Braves won the 4M District 4 title with a 4-0 record and won three of its last four games.

The winner faces the winner of the Winter Park-Lake Brantley game. If the Blue Darters are victorious, they would host the second-round matchup.

The Mustangs are ranked seventh in the region. Their opponent is ranked second in the region, finished its season with an 8-2 record, and is currently on a seven-game winning streak. On October 21st, Jones defeated Wekiva 21-7.

If the Mustangs prevail, they would face the winner of the Ovideo-Wharton game on November 18th.

Apopka and Wekiva would need to win five straight games to win the state championship. Lose one game, and the season is over. Apopka has reached the state finals in two of the last three seasons.

The Mustangs finished the season at 5-5, while the Blue Darters are 7-3.
