The Apopka Voice has learned that Orange County Sheriff John Mina will endorse Tiffany Hughes in her Florida House District 39 campaign.
In his endorsement statement, Mina said:
“As Sheriff of Orange County, I am proud to endorse Tiffany Hughes for State House District 39. Tiffany supports public safety and has the necessary experience to be an effective representative for District 39.”
Orange County, Sheriff Mina’s jurisdiction, comprises the bulk of House District 39, which includes Apopka, parts of Winter Garden, Zellwood, Wekiva Springs, and parts of Seminole County, including Longwood and Altamonte Springs. It is a district that features an even-split of Democrats (35%), Republicans (35%), with 30% of the voters registered as no party affiliation.
It is by all measure a battleground district.
“I’m honored to have received Sheriff Mina’s endorsement," Hughes said. "I’m grateful for his acknowledgment that I have what it takes to win this seat and represent HD 39 in the state house. As the past President of the Orange County Branch of the NAACP, I am all too familiar with the issues surrounding policing in America. But I also know that by working together, we create room for change, room for growth, and room for a better relationship where we work alongside our police officers to create safer communities. In his more than 30 years of public service, Sheriff Mina has exemplified what it means to protect and serve, and I look forward to working with him when I’m elected to represent District 39.”
Hughes, a Longwood resident, is the owner of KBI Staffing Solutions, was elected as the 25th President of the Orange County NAACP, the youngest in its 93-year history, and named an Orlando Business Journal 40-under-40 honoree.
Hughes has received the endorsement of Ruth’s List Florida and is supported by the Florida Democratic Party’s House Victory Caucus.
The primary for Florida House District 39 is August 23rd. The general election is November 8th,
