From the Orange County Sheriff's Office

At approximately 10:21 today, Orange County Sheriff's Office School Resource Officers (SRO’s) at Wekiva High School, 2501 N. Hiawassee Road were made aware of a student who possibly brought a firearm to the school.

Another Wekiva High School student observed a Snapchat post of a student with a firearm at the school. The student allowed the Principal to view the video. After analyzing the video, administrators and SRO’s were able to make an identification of the student, locate him, and placed him in custody. The defendant is being charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds and possession of an altered firearm.

Sheriff Jerry Demings applauds the courage of the student, who wants to remain anonymous, with the courage to see a potentially dangerous situation and notify the administration; the epitome of see something say something.

The suspect did not threaten anyone with the firearm.
