He's back!
Kyle Becker, a former commissioner who just 167 days ago lost a mayoral election, bounced back today with a resounding victory over political newcomer Lynetta Johnson to return to the Apopka City Council. Becker received 4,682 votes (58.41%) to Johnson's 3,334 (41.59%). He will be sworn in and occupy Seat #3 in November.
Becker, who vacated Seat #4 on the City Council to run for mayor, will step into the seat Commissioner Doug Bankson vacated to run for Florida House District 39.
"I'm ready to get back to work for our residents," Becker said shortly after the results were announced. "I thank them for their continued confidence in me as their representative."
Incumbent Christine Moore avoided a November runoff in her defense of the Orange County Commission District 2 seat and was re-elected - defeating challengers Chris Delgado and Sandra Fatmi-Hall.
Moore received 16,937 (57.23%) of the votes - easily overcoming the 50%+1 threshold. Fatmi-Hall pulled in 7,970 (26.93%) votes, while Delgado received 4,689 (15.84%) votes.
Commissioner Doug Bankson took a risk when he vacated his seat on the Apopka City Council to run for the Florida Legislature, but after a hard-fought primary, it looks like that risk paid off.
In a district that seems to be tailor-made for an Apopka politician, Bankson defeated challengers Charles Hart and Randy Ross. Bankson received 7,140 votes (53.04%), Hart 4,058 (30.14%), and Ross 2,264 (16.82%).
"I’m so grateful to God and our amazing team!" Bankson said. "Everyone has worked so hard, and we couldn’t be happier. So excited to go to the next step to represent the people of District 39 in Tallahassee. Now it’s on to November!"
