Conference of Mayors sends Kilsheimer home with $10,000 award

The U.S. Conference of Mayors, which gathered today in Washington D.C. for its 85th Winter Meeting, awarded the City of Apopka with the 2017 Dollarwise Summer Youth Campaign Grant recognizing the Apopka Youth Works summer employment and career education program.
Apopka Mayor Joe Kilsheimer received the award and $10,000 grant, which will go toward implementation of a mobile electronic application that will assist AYW students in tracking their earnings and savings. The progr...am also will reward the students who save the most money, and provide financial education to students and parents.
Apopka is partnering with CareerSource Central Florida and local businesses and organizations for the third year, providing employment and career exploration to 100 Apopka area high school juniors and seniors. The United States Conference of Mayors' Dollarwise Program also will provide financial education.
